My Go-To Everyday Lipsticks

e11fcd0aa6382b2e1ed06b74c3b3e993Lipstick. This is a make-up product that is a staple in every woman’s make-up bag. It is the product that not only brings color to your face but it also puts life back on your face. I mean who wants to have pale lips?

I cannot live without lipsticks because I naturally have super pale lips. When I have no make-up or any lip product on, I look like I’m feeling poorly or sick. However, when I put some lipstick on even though I do not have a make-up on, it makes such a big difference. Same thing with eyebrows, but today let’s just focus on the lips.

Listed below are my top three drugstore lipstick products that I use everyday, depending on my mood:

  • Blush pink shade, perfect for your everyday natural and girl looks!
  • Very moisturizing
  • It’s like a lip balm, a lipstick, and a lipgloss in one

2. Revlon’s Lipstick in CORAL PINK CB41

  • Good pigmentation
  • A beautiful Coral pink shade
  • This one is close to the natural color of my lips if I am not pale *wink*
  • It’s like a lip balm, a lipstick, and a lipgloss in one
  • Very moisturizing

3. Maybelline New York’s Lipstick in RED REVIVAL 645

  • Same finish as the other two but it’s more long lasting

Beauty Blogger Awards

My first ever tag blog post on WordPress!

Hello my loves!

First of all, I would like to say I am sorry that I haven’t blogged in a while.. I had to deal with some work, family, and love problems and I just really needed some time off. But the great news is I AM BACK! I will really try to be more consistent this time.

In early January, I’ve been tagged by my first ever follower and my first ever blogger friend, Paula on this tag called “Beauty Blogger Awards.” This kind of tags are similar to the tag videos that Youtubers do online and I am so excited to take part on this! Thank you so much Paula for tagging me on this and I am sorry if it took some time. Also, the cover photo credit goes to Paula!

Here are the rules:

  • Tag the blogger that nominated you
  • Answer the questions you were given
  • Nominate 10 bloggers whose blog is about beauty/lifestyle/fashion
  • Name 10 questions for your nominees to answer
  • Inform the bloggers you chose that you nominated them!

My questions from Paula are the following:

  1. What kind of foundation do you use?
  2.  What is your favorite Lipstick shade?
  3. How often do you wash your brushes?
  4. Have you ever tried applying make up on other people?
  5. If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
  6. What’s the most expensive thing in your make up collection?
  7. What’s the most inexpensive thing in your make up collection ( but works really great!)
  8. What are the products that you regret buying?
  9. What are your fashion staples?
  10. What is your best skincare advice?

Time to answer those questions!

  1. What kind of foundation do you use?

Cover Girl’s Ready, Set, Gorgeous!

I have been dealing with acne for quite a while now and it is such a struggle having an oily and acne-prone skin. However, recently I’ve been going to my dermatologist very consistently and she recommended that I use ONLY oil-free make-up products that are matte, products that won’t clog my pores and that won’t break me out! Since then I’ve been on a hunt for one and so far, I have found Cover Girl’s Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation as a miracle worker! It doesn’t break me out and it doesn’t clog my pores. It looks very natural and it feels very light. It doesn’t cake as well which is a plus! Girls, give this a try if you have oily and acne-prone skin!

*Available at Metro and SM Department Stores

2.  What is your favorite Lipstick shade?

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Maybelline New York’s Pink Me Up

I’m very much into nude-ish pink shades of lipstick. I don’t really like wearing bold and bright lipsticks because I don’t think they suit me well due to the shape of my lips and I tend to always go for the “natural” make-up look. I like keeping it simple and natural. May favorite nude-ish pink lipstick is this one from Maybelline New York in the shade Pink Me Up. This lipstick is very affordable and it’s like a lip balm, a lipstick, and a lip gloss rolled into one!

**Available at PCX, Watsons, Metro and SM Department Stores

3. How often do you wash your brushes?

I wash my brushes every week but the “washing” day tends to change though. It depends on my schedule for the week but I usually do it on Sundays! It’s very important to wash your brushes frequently so that bacteria will not build up on your brushes and it won’t transfer to your face which may cause breakouts or other reactions on the skin.

4. Have you ever tried applying make up on other people?

I love doing other people’s make-up! But I only do it for fun and as a hobby not professionally. I sometimes help my sister, Leslie when she does her make-up! But I mostly do my little nieces make-up! Yes, I know she’s young but I do not put on a full face make-up on her. I only do her eyes! Follow me on snapchat and you’ll get a lot of snippets when I do her make-up! She’s very kikay/girly!

5. If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?

If I could leave the house using only one make-up item, it would be concealer. As I have said, I have been dealing with acne for quite a while now, although it’s much better today since I’ve been going to my dermatologist regularly, I still have dark spots from my old pimples. So, having a concealer to use every day would help even out my skin tone and I’ll be more confident about skin.

6. What’s the most expensive thing in your make up collection?

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Nars’ Amsterdam

The most expensive make-up product on my collection is my Nars Amsterdam Lipstick. I love how it’s semi-matte but it doesn’t dry out my lips. The color is a little bit out of my comfort zone, since it’s a pretty vampy look but what I love about this product is that it is very buildable and you can wear it sheer if you just dab it on your lips or you could also sport the full and bold vampy colored lip.

**Available at Rustans, Metro and SM Department Stores

7. What’s the most inexpensive thing in your make up collection ( but works really great!)

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Nichido’s Dark Brown Eyeliner

The most inexpensive product on my make-up collection is my Nichido Dark Brown Eyeliner! It’s affordable but this is such a miracle worker and multi-functional! And by multifunctional, I mean with the ways that I use it. Generally the product can be used as an eyeliner and an eyebrow pencil but I discovered and added another function on this product! It also serves as a contouring tool! It’s an eyeliner that you could easily smudge but it also stays for a decent amount of time. If you want to see a tutorial on it, let me know and I might do it very soon!

**Available at Watsons, Metro and SM Department Stores

8. What are the products that you regret buying?

I don’t really have a product that I really regretted buying due to it’s use or function. But the ones that I regret are the products that I bought because there was a hype over it and learning later on that it’s either too light for my skin, it’s not too pigmented, the product’s not worth the hype or money, or it’s not an oil-free product so it broke me out.

Here are some of the products that I regret buying:

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Cover Girl’s Tru Blend Concealer in Medium

Pros: Medium to High Coverage

Cons: Hard to blend, very sticky, and has a smell

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Maybelline New York’s Dream Mate Mousse

Pros: Medium Coverage, Mouse to Powder Finish

Cons: Not an OIL-FREE product, clogged my pores, broke me out

Processed with VSCOcam with q5 preset

Revlon Photoready Sculpting Blush Palette

Pros: A wonderful trio that has a blush, contour powder, and a highlighter

Cons: All have shimmers in them, not very pigmented

9. What are your fashion staples?

  • A classic bag with a solid color or a trademark pattern (like Louis Vuitton or Chanel) that could go with many different outfits and colors
  • Great pair of black and blue denim jeans
  • Black ballet flats
  • Nude pumps/wedges/heels
  • LBD
  • White polo (It can be worn casually, at work, or in gatherings)
  • White V-neck shirt
  • Black shorts

10. What is your best skincare advice?

Always wash your face before you go to sleep even if you had a not so good and long day. NEVER SLEEP WITH YOUR MAKE-UP ON! It will cause you to breakout, make your skin oily and make your pores bigger. In the same manner, also wash your face when you wake up in the morning to get rid of the oil and bacteria that built up overnight!

I tag these lovely people!

Here are my questions for you!

  1. When did you start wearing make-up?
  2. Do you use a primer? If so, which primer do you prefer to use?
  3. What is your favorite foundation and why do you think it’s the best one out there?
  4. In applying your make-up products such as foundation, concealers and the like, do you prefer using a beauty blender, brushes, or your hands?
  5. Do you do contouring, strobing, or baking? What are you thoughts about it?
  6. What products are in your everyday make-up bag?
  7. What is your ultimate trick in making your make-up stay all day and all night?
  8. Did you ever think of making a youtube channel? If so, why? If not, why?
  9. Who is your favorite beauty guru?
  10. What is your best skincare advice?

That’s all for now! Thank you for dropping by and I will talk to you again soon!

My 2016 New Year’s Resolutions

Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 11.41.30 PM

Yes, I know it is already the 20th of January but you know what, I truly believe in the saying “Better late than never!” *wink* Although I am just posting this today, please note that I have already been working on this since the year started.

Before 2015 ended, I started brainstorming my 2016 New Year’s Resolutions. I listed about 20 of them which I thought was insane! After that, I also did some research on the internet  about the common and popular New Year’s Resolutions that people make and the reasons as to why people don’t stick to their resolutions. I also searched about great and uncommon new year’s resolutions that would not only help improve myself but also other people. Having done research, I took all those I’ve read into consideration but more importantly I reflected on what I really need to improve on. What do I really what to change for myself? What can I do so I will be healthier, more beautiful, and more confident inside and out this 2016.

So what I did was I narrowed down my list. From 20, I was able to narrow it down to five because I noticed that some of my resolutions are almost related to each other so I figured I could just group things together and categorize them. By doing that, not only did I narrowed it down  but it really has helped me to think of achievable and realistic goals for myself this year!

Here are my New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. Be more punctual

In the Philippines, we have this stereotype called “Filipino-time.” This one is very popular because it happens all the time at Filipino Parties, meetings, etc.or basically any occasion where Filipinos are invited. Filipino-time is based on how Filipinos always arrive 30 minutes to an hour late in EVERY occasion. I would have to be honest though, last year, I was late in a lot of appointments and events. I am not really a morning person and I get so lazy every time I need to prep myself to go out and do errands. But this year, I want to change that and you know what, I’ve been doing great at keeping this resolution so far! I’m always early and I am so proud of myself.

2. Get healthy

Oh yes, the most popular and easily broken New Year’s Resolution. I know, it’s so basic but hear me out. This year, I am really determined to do so especially because I need it for work. Though my weight is very acceptable for my work and my height. I just really want to tone up my body. A thing you don’t know about me is a used be an athlete, a figure skater to be exact. I was very fit and I had a toned body before, but since I started college, and my lifestyle wasn’t as active as it used to be, I somehow started gaining weight and my metabolism (unfortunately) slowed down.

My goal weight is 118 lbs. I am currently on 122-123lbs. My plan is this:

  • Exercise 3-5x a week
  • Eat and drink healthy
    • Eat more fruits and vegetables
    • Less rice
    • Less sweets
    • No junk food
    • Drink more water
    • No sodas

3. Be more fluent in Mandarin

Mid-year of 2015 I took up a 60-hour class program at ENLI to learn Mandarin which is the language widely-used in mainland China. I finished my class last June 2015, however, I still find it hard to converse and write with the language. We paid quite a big amount of money for it so I don’t want it to just go to waste. Also because I know that it is very beneficial for me. Since my degree was Tourism Management, having a second or third language is a very big advantage especially if it’s Mandarin. That’s one of the main reason why my parents really wanted me to learn the language even before I went to college. So this year, I will study Mandarin for an hour everyday so that I could continuously learn and speak it until I can confidently converse using the language.

4. Get more quality sleep

I am not a morning person, I am a night owl and I like sleeping at the wee hours in the morning. However, recently I discovered this story about a man who is a CEO who is very active and healthy. He exercised daily and ate the healthiest of foods but in the end he unfortunately passed away. And research showed that even though he was eating very healthy and had a very active lifestyle, the reason behind his death was because he wasn’t getting enough sleep every single day. The research stated that having just 4 hours to 6 hours of sleep is not enough and is not good for your mind and body. Hence, getting quality sleep is one of my resolutions because I never sleep at a sensible time at night. There were even days where whenever we had an outing and we had to leave early, I didn’t even bother sleeping at all and I was awake for nearly 3 days which was terribly wrong. So this year, I plan to change my body clock and I will try to sleep every night before midnight and wake up at 6:30 in the morning.

5. Release the hurt, worry, and anger in my heart

A lot of things has happened in my life. Some are are honestly very hard to forget because the people who caused it are still somehow part of your life and it sucks that you can’t do anything about it because they’re are important to the lives of some of the people you love. In other cases, there are situations that happened to you many times already and even though it seems that the people who surround you are very deserving of your love and trust, you can’t just shake away that fear of getting hurt and getting betrayed. You’d think that you are already numb because it has happened so many times but once it happens, it hurts just like the first time.

This year, I will be letting go of people who are toxic in my life. Those who have betrayed me or hurt me. I will not let them stay in my life if I don’t feel good or if I feel like I can’t be myself when I am with them. To those who I can’t remove from my life, I will try to be more open-minded to understand the situation and hopefully find courage to confront them and to sort everything out. In line with this, this 2016 I want to be able to control my temper more. Be more patient and kind.

That’s it everyone! Thank you again for visiting my blog! Leave your New Year’s Resolutions down below! I would really love to read them!

Lastly, I want you all to remember that it is never too late to change and start on your New Year’s Resolutions! Go reflect, write them down, and work on it! This is gonna be your best year yet! CLAIM IT!

Candidly yours,

My 22nd Birthday

Every year, all of us becomes a year older. It is that occasion that no one can ever avoid whether you like it or not. Some people like the idea of it, some, not so much.

My mocha flavored birthday cake!

Yesterday, the 11th of January, I turned 22 years old. It is surreal to think how it’s my birthday again because I swear I just turned 21 yesterday. Time flies by so fast nowadays, I wish time would just slow down a little. I mean, I have no problem with growing up, I actually like it. I like the idea of growing up and maturing because I’ve always been the type of person who likes responsibility and doing new things I haven’t tried before. It is all very exciting to me. However, my birthday this year is pretty different. An unfortunate thing happened and let’s just say it’s not how you typically celebrate ones birthday.

Last January 7th, my Aunty from my mother’s side passed away. It was a shock to all of us and we are all sad about it especially because she died on her birthday. I didn’t want to have a big celebration because it didn’t feel right to do so. So on my birthday, I just had a mini celebration at our house. Just me, my siblings, my parents, and yaya’s.

In our house,  we typically celebrate birthdays in the late afternoon or what we call here in the Philippines, the “merienda” time. It is the snack time before dinner time. We celebrate the birthdays of all the people in our house including our yaya’s or helpers. There’s always a cake, some food (either spaghetti or pancit), and sodas!

I was very happy and contented. I am not really the type of girl who loves to party and have grand celebrations on her birthday! A simple dinner is enough as long as I am with my family. I received gifts and letters from my sister and nieces. It was the sweetest and cutest things ever!

My nieces gave me instax films because I am obsessed with polaroids and I plan to take more polaroid photos this year! They also gave me a Taylor Swift 1989 shirt because they know that I am such an avid fan of Taylor Swift! I know all of her songs and I look up to her so much! If you are too, let me know in the comments! My sister gave me a stamp that has a London theme which I love! I am obsessed with everything that has a London, Union Jack, and Paris theme! Lastly my sister gave me a journal which I am very excited to use. I’ve always loved writing and I cannot wait to brainstorm in that notebook and input the most memorable (and maybe worst) moments of my life! The three of them also gave me letters and I am so touched and thankful for all their love and effort!

On every birthday celebrations, the birthday celebrant always blows his/her birthday candles. But in our household, there’s always three people blowing out birthday candles! Oh yes, you heard that right! My nieces always like to blow candles along with the birthday celebrant! Below are series of photos of what happened after I blew out mine!

First, everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to me then I made my birthday wish and blew the candles on the cake!

Afterwards, my baby niece, Lilly started crying because she didn’t get to blow it out! So everyone started comforting her and we lit the candle again!

Of course, if Lillian blew out the birthday candle, her big sister should do so as well!

In total, we sang the birthday song thrice and we had such a great afternoon! The spaghetti tasted delicious as well! I would like to say thank you to my yaya, ate Gem for that. I would also like to thank my dad for buying the cake for me!

I am terribly excited to started this new chapter of my life! Thank you so much to all of the people who wished me “Happy Birthday.” I truly appreciate it! I love you all so much! I hope you’d stick around for more blog posts from me! Watch out for another birthday post! We will be having my birthday dinner this coming Sunday!

You can see my birthday instagram post here:

Thank you Lord for all the wonderful blessings that you have given me all these years! Thank you for my family, relatives, my boyfriend Jedson, his family, my bestfriends, and friends (I may not have many but at least I know I have the best and the most trustworthy people surrounding me). 2015 was a big challenge for me. I had to face new things I thought I could NEVER do or accomplish, I had to deal with conflicts and let go of some people I trusted and truly love the most. It wasn’t easy but I am glad I made it through.
I’m thankful for my parents, siblings, my boyfriend, and professors for always challenging me and for proving to me that I am capable of more than I ever thought was possible!
Thank you Lord for answering my prayers one by one. I know that everything happens for a reason and I know that everything happens at your own perfect time. I offer everything to you Lord. I love you.
Cheers to being #22 and for the many great years to come! *cue in @taylorswift’s song* ❤️🎂❤️ God bless us all!

Candidly Lara

A new year has come our way giving us a new chance to change for the better. A brand new chance to start with a clean slate, a chance to correct our mistakes, forgive and ask for forgiveness, fulfil our goals and promises that we have failed to achieve the past years, and a brand new chance to face our fears and challenge ourselves to do new things.

Speaking of challenging yourself, ever since I was a young girl, I have always loved reading, memorizing, and writing but all of it was just a hobby. However, I’ve always wanted to start a blog and a youtube channel but I’ve always been so hesitant on doing those things because I’m scared of putting myself out there. But this year as we welcome 2016 and as I turn 22 on this 11th day of January, I’m putting all of those negative thoughts away and I will face my fears.

Hence, today I bring you, Candidly Lara. A blog that will feature anything that is related to travel and lifestyle in general.  I will be writing about the things I like (or dislike), books and movies that I love, interesting places that I will eat at, things that are trending, my travels and adventures whether big or small, my fitness journey and so much more!  I may do some beauty and fashion blogs (maybe some youtube videos too) but just give me some time to adjust first and I promise I’ll do that soon once I am comfortable and confident enough. I will also share with you the best and most unforgettable moments in my life as well as how we live and celebrate different festivities here in the Philippines. I have a lot of things lined up for all of you so I hope you’ll stick around. However, please keep in mind that I am new to all of this so please bear with me.

I would like to end this blog by wishing you all a happy, healthy, and a prosperous new year (I know that we are already 11 days in for 2016 but better late than never *wink*)! May 2016 bring us all an abundance of love, great opportunities and God’s blessings! Happy New Year Everyone! Welcome 2016!
